C’est l’histoire de Raskolnikov, un jeune homme révolté, écrasé par la misère. Il est en lutte contre l’injustice, la pauvreté, et le peu de perspectives que lui offre le monde. Alors, par-delà la morale et au mépris de la loi, il vole et assassine une vieille usurière. Après tout, le monde sera mieux sans elle, et le butin pourra être redistribué…
Le châtiment est immédiat, c’est lui qui se l’inflige. Tourmenté par la barbarie de son acte, il vacille… Petit prétentieux sans morale ? Robin des bois maladroit ? Salaud séduisant ? Ou simple produit du monde dans lequel il vit ? Au tribunal, les avis divergent…
Ce spectacle est l’anatomie d’un crime, de son fantasme à son aveu. Entre action et réflexion, humour et chants, le théâtre d’objets des Karyatides nous emmène à un rythme de plus en plus haletant et sur un ton de plus en plus musical vers notre propre délibération. Saisissant.
Dit is het verhaal van Raskolnikov, een jonge rebel, verpletterd door ellende. Hij vecht tegen onrecht, armoede en de weinige vooruitzichten die de wereld hem te bieden heeft. Daarom, voorbij elk moreel besef en in minachting van de wet, berooft en vermoordt hij een oude woekeraarster. Uiteindelijk zal de wereld toch beter af zijn zonder haar, en de buit kan herverdeeld worden…
De straf is onverbiddelijk en wordt door hemzelf opgelegd. Gekweld door de wreedheid van zijn daad wankelt hij… Een gewetenloze betweter? Een onhandige Robin Hood? Een charmante schurk? Of gewoon een product van de wereld waarin hij leeft? In de rechtszaal lopen de meningen uiteen.
Dit stuk is de ontleding van een misdaad, van de eerste fantasie tot de uiteindelijke bekentenis. Tussen actie en reflectie, humor en zang, neemt het figurentheater van Les Karyatides ons mee in een steeds meeslepender ritme en muzikalere toon richting onze eigen beraadslaging. Aangrijpend.

His punishment is both relentless and self-inflicted. Tormented by the cruelty of his actions, he falters … Is he an unscrupulous know-it-all? A clumsy Robin Hood? A charming villain? Or simply a product of the world he lives in? Opinions in the courtroom differ.
This creation is a dissection of a crime, from the first fantasies to the eventual confession. Between action and reflection, humour and song, Les Karyatides’ puppets use an increasingly evocative rhythm and musical tone to deliver us to our own deliberation. A touching creation.
