Ballroom

Dans un camion, prenez place. Il y un bac, quelques balles… le reste est de béton.

Quelqu’un s’est vu confier la tâche de remettre les mêmes balles dans le même bac. Sans relâche. Et c’est ce qu’il fait. D’abord seul, puis avec l’aide des murs auxquels il lance les balles.Ainsi, Quelqu’un fait parcourir aux balles des trajectoires de plus en plus longues à travers l’espace. Des trajectoires parfois gracieuses et d’une simplicité trompeuse, d’autres fois puissantes et complexes, au bout desquelles, si tout va bien, les balles atterrissent dans le bac.

Sauf que tout ne va pas toujours bien. Alors, Quelqu’un tente de jouer avec l’espace et le temps, tente d’inventer une nouvelle dimension. Et quand ça marche, il se passe Quelque chose qu’on pourrait qualifier de magique.

Een ongelooflijke dans van botsballen.

Ergens kreeg Iemand de taak om steeds opnieuw dezelfde ballen in dezelfde bak te leggen. Iemand doet het dag in dag uit, jaar in jaar uit, en niemand weet eigenlijk waarom. In de hoop dat de muren niet op Iemand afkomen, begint die ertegen te gooien. Zo laat Iemand de ballen steeds langere banen afleggen doorheen de ruimte, soms sierlijk en bedrieglijk eenvoudig, soms krachtig en complex. Om – als alles goed gaat – netjes in de bak te eindigen.

Alleen gaat alles niet altijd goed. En hoeveel niet goed kan Iemand verdragen? Terwijl de ballen ballast worden, probeert Iemand Ergens een nieuwe dimensie te ontwarren in ruimte en tijd – of is het in het hoofd – om aan de kleurloze eentonigheid te ontsnappen. En wanneer dat lukt, ontstaat er iets dat je pure magie zou kunnen noemen.
Voor Ballroom neem je plaats in een omgebouwde vrachtwagen. Binnenin maakte beeldend kunstenaar Lodewijk Heylen een decor uit beton, waarin  jongleur Stijn Grupping dankzij heel veel oefenen en een beetje magie een ongelofelijke dans van botsballen creëert. Op de klanken van muzikanten Jochem Baelus en Frederik Meulyzer neemt hij je mee in een woordloze trip.

Take a seat in a lorry. There is a bin, a few bales… the rest is concrete.

Somewhere, Someone has been tasked with putting the same balls into the same crate over and over again. Someone does this day in, day out, year in, year out, and no one actually knows why. Hoping that the walls won’t collapse on Someone, Someone starts throwing the balls against the walls. And so the balls travel ever further though the space, in a way that is sometimes graceful and deceptively simple, sometimes powerful and complex. If all goes well, they land neatly in the crate. 

But things don’t always go well. And how much of that ‘not-well’ can Someone take?
As the balls become so much dead weight, Someone Somewhere tries to unravel a new dimension in space and time – or is it in the mind? – in order to escape the colourless monotony. And when that works, something happens that could be called pure magic. For Ballroom, you take a seat in a converted lorry. Inside, visual artist Lodewijk Heylen has created a concrete set in which juggler Stijn Grupping, thanks to a lot of practice and a little magic, creates an incredible dance of bouncing balls. Accompanied by the sounds of musicians Jochem Baelus and Frederik Meulyzer, he takes you on a wordless journey.
